The 2024-25 Dallas Mavericks season sure has felt like a cursed season. From reaching the 2024 NBA Finals, to having a disastrous conference title defense this season.

Luka Doncic being traded by the Mavericks to the Los Angeles Lakers certainly has ripped the heart out of the majority of Mavericks fans. From protesting outside the arena, to holding up signs that American Airlines security would take away, and booing the team.

Fans' frustration this season is with reason for a team that entered this season with having championship aspirations. Now, the frustration hit a team's fan base in Dallas at a game and the Mavericks weren't even playing.

"Fire Nico" chants erupt at Dallas Stars game

One thing that seems to be common in the Dallas-Fort Worth area is a significant amount of the people root for all DFW teams. From the Dallas Stars, to the Texas Rangers, to the Dallas Cowboys and the Mavericks. Stars fans made their presence known in frustration to the Mavericks and general manager Nico Harrison.

During last night's Stars game, the Stars fans chanted "fire Nico." The popular chant hit a hockey game at the same arena the Stars and Mavericks both share. For that to happen, adds more frustration for this Mavericks season that continues to drag on.

Just when more drama and frustration couldn't be added to the Mavericks' lost season and Harrison, there's more added from their fans. Of all places to have a "fire Nico" chant, it had to happen at a Stars game. That's another new low for this season, but the frustration is still on full display with attendance. During Monday's game, the attendance at the Mavericks game was incredibly low in the final minutes of the game due to the score, and the passion within the fan base is gone. Meanwhile, the Stars are drawing great crowds this season.

Frustration on Harrison has grown more with the results of acquiring Anthony Davis from the Lakers in the Doncic trade. Davis has played one game for the Mavericks in February and he hasn't played since.

Now that Kyrie Irving recently tore his ACL and will be out for the season, it adds more frustration to the season. With Irving now out for the season, the possibility of Davis missing the remainder of the season could be a possibility. If Davis does miss the remainder of this season, it will make fans fume even more at Harrison that he traded Doncic.

Trading for a player, who is talented, but can't stay healthy, to potentially play only one game with the Mavericks following the trade, only makes the Doncic trade worse. Meanwhile, Doncic and the Lakers are currently a top-two seed in the Western Conference. The Mavericks are the 10th seed with a 32-31 record in the conference, but not having Davis and Irving in the lineup can cause the Mavericks to fall out of a spot in the Play-In Tournament.

It's clear the city of Dallas is still not over the Doncic trade and chanting "fire Nico" at a Stars game shows just that. The Mavericks are in danger of missing the Play-In Tournament and will have to watch Doncic in the playoffs with the Lakers. Focusing attention on the Stars for the remainder of this season could be a new focus for some Mavericks fans in Dallas.
