The Dallas Mavericks' fan base has been through more over the last month than they could have ever imagined.
It all started with Luka Doncic being traded at the beginning of February, and since that happened, everything has gotten exponentially worse. From Anthony Davis and Daniel Gafford going down to leaks about Doncic's work ethic to raising season ticket prices and more, Mavericks fans have experienced the toughest stretch in franchise history, and nothing is getting easier.
While there was some optimism that fans could get some good news about Davis, Gafford, or Dereck Lively II's injury on March 6 (when they're set to be reevaluated), they witnessed the worst possible thing they could ever see on Monday night.
Mavericks suffer crushing blow as Kyrie Irving's injury news is confirmed
As Kyrie Irving was driving to the rim in the first quarter against the Sacramento Kings, he injured his left knee and went to the ground hard. It was clear that Irving was seriously injured almost immediately, as he couldn't get up. He was helped by Anthony Davis to the bench, but then he decided that he wanted to be helped to the free throw line. Irving sunk both free throws, and his injury was initially ruled a left knee sprain.
Just over 12 hours after the injury occurred, Mavs fans got the worst news imaginable. According to ESPN's Shams Charania, Irving tore his ACL in his left knee and will be out for the rest of the season. This was a major fear right when the injury occurred, as it looked horrible from the jump, and Dallas' season continues to take ferocious blows at the worst times.
Kyrie Irving went down hard and was hardly putting any pressure on his left leg.

Rather than being helped to the locker room, Anthony Davis helped him to the free throw line.
He then drained both free throws and was helped to the locker room by Davis.

Right as someone gets healthy, someone else always seems to go down, and all of the positive vibes have vanished. Jason Kidd talked about the unluckiness of Irving's injury after the game last night, and time and time again he has emphasized that he has never seen anything like this during his time in the NBA.
The Mavericks have dealt with more adversity this season than some teams deal with in 10 years, and any hope of Dallas making a deep playoff run has been completely crushed. With Irving out for the season, Dallas' guard depth has been completely obliterated. Their shot creation was already an issue before Irving went down, and Kidd will be scrambling for answers over the last month or so of the season.
Fans should have a much better idea of what direction Dallas will go in later this week, as we'll receive some sort of news regarding Davis, Gafford, and Lively II when it comes to their rehab and how they are recovering from their respective injuries. Caleb Martin is also trending towards a return later this week, but nothing will be able to alleviate the pain fans are going through with Irving going down for the season.
Irving was having an amazing season, and he had been everything that Mavs fans could have possibly hoped for. On and off the floor, Irving was an outstanding leader, and he had been a major voice of reason when it came to the Doncic trade. The entire city rallied behind him ever since he arrived in Dallas, and that will continue for as long as he is a Maverick, even after this devastating injury.
Anything that could possibly go wrong has gone wrong for the Mavericks, and Irving tearing his ACL was the straw that broke the camel's back. Dallas' optimistic approach of getting healthy right before the playoffs has been entirely crushed, and only time will tell how the team responds to this news.
