After last night's win over the Chicago Bulls, the Dallas Mavericks are now 37-38 on the season, and they're looking like a lock for the Play-In Tournament despite everything they've been through over the last few months. Dallas is currently the No. 9 seed in the West, and they hold a half-game lead over the Sacramento Kings for this spot. The Phoenix Suns are also in the hunt for the play-in, as they are currently the No. 11 seed and are just 1.5 games behind Dallas, but they have been awful over the last few weeks, and it would take a miracle for them to pass the Mavericks.
Dallas being a play-in team is not something that anyone could have expected after they made the NBA Finals last year, but their nonstop injuries have thrown a wrench into their plans. Almost every player on the roster has suffered a somewhat serious injury this season, and that includes new superstar Anthony Davis.
In his Mavericks debut back in February, Davis suffered an adductor strain, causing him to miss 18 games. Dallas struggled to hold things together without Davis, and things got even worse when Kyrie Irving tore his ACL on March 3.
Davis confirms theory Mavericks fans have believed for months
Davis is back in the lineup and healthy now, but he recently admitted something about his injury that Mavericks fans knew all along.
Davis spoke to NBA insider Marc J. Spears after Dallas' win over the Orlando Magic on Thursday night, and they discussed his time in Dallas so far, including the injury he suffered in his debut. He was dealing with an abdominal injury when he arrived in Dallas that he suffered while playing for the Los Angeles Lakers, and he believes that he may have rushed back to get back on the floor.
"If I could do it over, I would probably take a couple more days," Davis said.
Davis talked about how he didn't have the rehab equipment that he needed when he went to meet the team in Philadelphia after the trade, and that could have been the reason that he got injured in his debut. He said that there were about three days that he wasn't able to rehab the injury like he wanted, doubling down that he thinks he should have waited a little longer to get back on the floor.
Davis was eager to return and play in front of the home crowd, as he heard all of the criticism that was coming Dallas' way for trading for him, and fans feared that he came back from his abdominal injury too soon right after he went down. That was one of the biggest talking points among fans right after he got injured, and Davis confirmed this theory in his interview with Spears.
It's hard to knock Davis for rushing back, as he is a true competitor and always wants to be on the floor if he's healthy, and there's nothing that he can do about it now. Davis and the Mavericks will have the chance to extend their winning streak to three games tomorrow night against the Brooklyn Nets, and we'll have you covered with all the latest.
