It's been over a month since Nico Harrison broke the hearts of Dallas Mavericks fans everywhere when he made the decision in the middle of the night to trade away Luka Doncic, their generational superstar for Anthony Davis, a championship veteran with a history of injuries.

Harrison made the decision off of thinking that Davis would be championship-ready this season. For maybe just 90 minutes, Davis' dominant start against the Houston Rockets shortly reassured Mavs fans that maybe everything would be OK. That all came crumbling down just three quarters into Davis' Mavs debut.

Davis' adductor strain led to him being sidelined for several weeks with hopes of returning soon. Now, recent reports indicate that the Mavericks are torn on whether or not they want to see Davis return to the court this season. Davis wants to get back on the floor as soon as possible, but the Mavericks aren't sure that bringing him back is the right idea.

From Harrison's disastrous night trading away Doncic to his new star big man missing extended time is a dumpster fire that Mavs fans could've predicted from the start. If the Mavs want to keep from any more negative repercussions, they should probably listen to their gut from inside the organization and throw in the white towel on this regular season.

Anthony Davis' eagerness could lead to more injuries

After the Mavs' heartbreaking loss to the Indiana Pacers, Dallas fell to below the 10th seed for the first time since the calendar year began. This is probably a sign that the Mavericks should shut down Davis for the remainder of the season.

Even though he is eager to play and is showing his warrior mindset by not wanting to miss any more time, the Mavericks must avoid disaster at all costs. The team has experience in the past when it comes to playing star players in meaningless games and it leading to injuries, and they can't continue this trend with Davis. Fans saw Davis go down in his first game with the team after likely returning too soon, and that's not something they should risk this time around.

While his recovery process has been a process, it's simply not worth it for him to go back onto the court with just around 10 games remaining. If the Mavs were in a solid position with fewer injuries to at least participate in the playoffs, it'd be a different story. With no Kyrie Irving to look forward to, the Mavericks need to ensure they at least have a future by signing Irving and keeping Davis healthy for the long run if they want to compete for an NBA championship.

Davis wanting to play is an awesome sign, as he truly cares about being on the floor as much as he can, but it's time for the Mavericks to step in and shut him down for the season. This is way too big of a risk to play with considering how poorly things have gone over the last few months, and rather than continuing to kick the can down the road, it may finally be time to announce that Davis won't play another game this season.

With Irving's ACL injury possibly overlapping into the beginning of next season, the Mavs need to play it safe by not risking Davis to anything silly. Imagine if Davis returned this season and he re-injured himself, Mavs fans would be even more irate with a very unclear future ahead. With Phoenix surpassing Dallas in the standings, it's a sign that Davis shouldn't take the court with a future already up in the air.
