This Saturday afternoon has been one of the more eventful days in Dallas Mavericks history, as protesters flooded the south side outside the American Airlines Center at Victory Plaza because President of Basketball Operations Nico Harrison decided to trade Luka Doncic for Anthony Davis last week.
Despite the hectic scene outside the arena, there was definitely a buzz of excitement from everyone at this game to at least see the new look Mavs, and Davis made his entrance loud and clear to the Dallas faithful.
Davis was dominating from the get-go in this game, proving that he can be a two-way force for seasons to come for this Mavericks team if all things go according to plan. Through three quarters, Davis had a monstrous 26 points, 16 rebounds, seven assists, and three blocks.
Davis suffered non-contact injury in his Maveirkcs debut
However, Mavericks fans' biggest fear came true just as Dallas was on the precipice of the third quarter, as Alperen Sengun blew by Davis for an easy dunk after Davis suffered a non-contact lower-body injury. Dallas had to foul to stop play while playing four-on-five defensively on the ensuing possession, and Davis immediately went back to Dallas' locker room.
Mavericks PR announced Davis was doubtful to return to the game, and he didn't come back into this contest following his electrifying debut. Initial signs are pointing toward this injury possibly being a re-aggravation of Davis' abdominal strain that kept him out of his first two games in Dallas, but no reporting has confirmed that yet. Hopefully, this injury isn't serious.
Update: Davis said his injury is "nothing serious" and that he's "fine." The injury was to his groin/quad area.

“Leg got tight, like a little spasm…Obviously dealing with the ab strain still, so just tried to get it loose, it wouldn’t really loosen up, let go, but it’s nothing serious. I’m fine.”

Davis' injury history is well documented, and that was one of the biggest points of criticism from skeptics on the Doncic-Davis swap, especially since Doncic is six years younger than Davis and has had far less extensive bouts with long-term injuries. Mavericks fans are hoping that Davis can return soon, as his debut was close to perfect.
Davis was scoring at will from all over the floor, knocking down mid-range and 3-point jumpers, playing ferocious defense, and crashing the glass hard. His performance in this game against Houston was one of the best debuts we have seen in Mavs history, and Harrison's vision of how Davis would fit in Dallas was displayed in this game.
The energy of the entire team on both ends of the floor was undeniable, and that all started with Davis. He left his mark on this game within the first few minutes of the game, and he told Mavericks fans "I'm here" after a big play in the first quarter. Davis was screaming, celebrating with his teammates, and hyping the crowd up, and the atmosphere of this game against Houston looked like a playoff game.
Mavericks fans couldn't have asked for much more when it comes to Davis' performance in his debut, and now fans are awaiting any injury news surrounding the star big man. Being without Davis for an extended period of time would be a stab in the heart for Mavericks fans, as their last seven days have already been crazy.
