The Dallas Mavericks made the biggest trade in NBA history on Saturday night when they traded Luka Doncic, Maxi Kleber, and Markieff Morris to the Los Angeles Lakers for Anthony Davis and Max Christie.

This was a move that no one expected, as Dallas showed no signs that moving Doncic was an option. Nico Harrison and Rob Pelinka kept talks about this trade quiet, and the Davis era in Dallas could begin as soon as Thursday against the Boston Celtics.

The Mavericks pulled off another trade on Tuesday afternoon, as Dallas sent Quentin Grimes and a second-round pick to the Philadelphia 76ers for Caleb Martin. Dallas adds more wing versatility with this move, and another move is now on the table for Harrison and the Mavericks.

Mavericks want to build unbelievable big three with Durant

According to Sam Amick of The Athletic, the Mavericks "have dreams of adding Durant to their Davis-Kyrie Irving-led group."

Harrison isn't done making moves, and a trade for Durant could be the next domino to fall for the Mavericks as they build their roster for the playoff push. This trade could help Harrison win Mavericks fans over again, and the Mavericks definitely need more offense after trading Doncic to the Lakers.

Harrison's trade for Davis was an effort to add more defense, as he strongly believes that "defense wins championships," and a move for Durant would immediately help the Mavericks get back some of the offense that was lost by trading away Doncic.

This season for the Phoenix Suns, Durant is averaging 26.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 0.8 steals, and 1.3 blocks per game while shooting 52.4 percent from the field and 39.8 percent from downtown. Durant is one of the most unique and dominant scorers this game has ever seen, and a trio of Durant, Kyrie Irving, and Davis could be exactly what Dallas needs to truly re-enter championship conversations.

Durant would give the Mavericks someone who knows how to win at the highest level, and Dallas would have one of the best big threes of all time.

While getting the salary to work in a trade for Durant, this type of move would be Harrison going all in on the next few years and pushing all of his chips to the center. There would be no going back after this trade, and the Mavericks' first-round draft capital would likely have to be emptied as they only have three tradeable first-round picks.

Durant is under contract until the end of next season, and if Harrison and the Mavericks think that they could get him to re-sign, they could end up pushing hard for it. Amick did note that Dallas trading for Durant is "unlikely" at this point, but this rumor does give fans a great look at what Harrison is thinking right now.

He wants to go win a championship right now, and Durant could be the missing ingredient to doing that as soon as this season. Durant has already played with Irving in the past during their time with the Brooklyn Nets, and they could pick up right where they left off in Dallas.
