NBA analyst completely forgets about Mavericks despite strong offseason

The Dallas Mavericks remained at the top of the West this summer, getting the jackpot of the offseason, Klay Thompson from the Golden State Warriors.

Other teams made some great trades, signings and draft picks.

The Southwest division should be fairly competitive all season long.

However, there's one NBA analyst who is touting one Western Conference team while completely disregarding the fact that the Mavericks took care of business against them in the playoffs just a few months back.

Kendrick Perkins says Thunder are only team to 'check all the boxes'

Respectively, this isn't at all the first time we've heard something questionable from Kendrick Perkins.

This is what he said on an episode of "NBA Today" on ESPN.

In reference to the Thunder, Perkins claims that there's just one team in the West that can complete the ultimate goal.

"You're the only team in the Western Conference in my opinion, to check all boxes," Perkins said.

He goes on to add that this Thunder team is a young team. Led by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Chet Holmgren, they're going to be a force.

They might very well be, but Perkins might need a refresher that not even Lu Dort could defend an injured Luka Doncic.

Like many other teams that have had to re-construct their roster because of Dallas ending their season, Josh Giddey was a no-show in the semi-finals, so he left for Chicago in a trade.

The Thunder did add Alex Caruso and Isaiah Hartenstein to regroup. This will be a great team, no doubt. It's just interesting how Perkins didn't even bring up other teams that could be a challenge. Perhaps a team that's also in a prime position like Minnesota or Dallas. You can even throw Memphis in the mix now.

With Dallas being able to win in one of the best playoff environments, this was a true battle on both sides, and whoever was to advance in the playoffs deserved it.

Other prominent NBA analysts did give Dallas their flowers though.

On the "ALL NBA Podcast," NBA analyst Tim Legler feels the Mavericks did something difficult this offseason. He says the team has gotten better in an already tough Western Conference after making the NBA Finals last season.

"It's almost not debatable that I think they significantly improved their team...it's hard to say you've substantially improved, I think they did," Legler said.

Legler goes on to add about the problem for the Mavs against the Celtics.

The difference of 3-point shooting between Dallas and Boston killed them in the NBA Finals.

As great as Josh Green and Derrick Jones Jr. were to the team's success last season, their shooting wasn't going to cut beating a team like Boston.

Kendrick Perkins has a point, the Thunder will be something to watch this year, but usually teams that lose the NBA Finals don't get as significantly better like Dallas has this year.

As Legler pointed out, this team will absolutely be competing with the best in the league.
