Dallas Mavericks training camp will be here before we know it, and fans are already starting to circle dates on their calendar as Dallas' schedule was revealed earlier this month.

Some marquee games include Klay Thompson's return to the Bay and a Western Conference Finals rematch against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Christmas Day, but there is still a glaring question that remains unanswered this offseason.

Will the Mavericks re-sign Markieff Morris?

Markieff Morris continues to push for Mavericks to re-sign him

It was reported a couple of months ago that Morris re-signing with the Mavs was a guarantee, but it still hasn't happened yet. Morris has made it known that he wants to return to Dallas for some time now, and he shared his thoughts once again on Thursday morning.

Morris responded to a tweet about him re-signing with the Mavs with a caption of "One of these days," and he has been persistent about making it known that he'd like to be on the Mavs for the 2024-25 season.

Last season for Dallas, Morris averaged 2.5 points and 1.5 rebounds per game while shooting 35.7 percent from downtown, but Morris' main value came when he was on the bench. Morris emerged as one of the biggest leaders on the team, and he was always one to give pregame and postgame speeches and give advice to the younger players when needed.

Everyone on the Mavs roster looked up to Morris, and Jason Kidd even named him the MVP of the team last season for all he did for the team. Morris is one of the best locker room guys in the league, and every team needs someone like Morris in the locker room.

Morris has played 13 seasons in the NBA and has been in virtually every situation. He also won an NBA Championship with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020, and he brings his championship pedigree to the Mavs daily.

While Morris and the Mavs both seem to be interested in a reunion next season, Dallas doesn't have an open roster spot. They'd have to cut someone to make room for Morris, and that player who could get cut has been rumored to be A.J. Lawson.

Lawson is a 24-year-old shooting guard for Dallas, and in order to keep Moris the Mavs may have to cut him as his contract isn't fully guaranteed. Cutting Lawson to make room for Morris may seem like a risky move considering Lawson's potential, but Morris' value off the floor is much more than anyone realizes.
