About three months ago, the Dallas Mavericks lost in the 2024 NBA Finals to the Boston Celtics in five games.

Dallas had gone on a magical run to the Finals that included them beating the top two seeds in the Western Conference, but their seemingly unstoppable downpour of domination ended in Boston.

The Celtics were much better than any of the opponents that Dallas had faced previously, and Dallas immediately looked to address their biggest kryptonite from that series.

3-point shooting.

Thompson showing Mavs' shooting woes from Finals will be nonexistent

None of Dallas' shooters could consistently hit open shots, and Dallas put this weakness to rest as they signed Klay Thompson. Thompson is one of the greatest shooters to ever touch the hardwood, and he is poised to help Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving tremendously.

Doncic and Irving create plenty of open shots, and Thompson is already showing that he is going to help Dallas' 3-point shooting off the catch.

Thompson was recently at the Rico Hines Runs, and his ability to shoot off the catch was outstanding. He is widely known as one of the best catch-and-shoot shooters ever, and some fans are already overlooking that. Thompson hardly needs any space to let it fly, but his 3-point shooting isn't the only thing that shined in this clip.

He was scoring at all three levels and he is showing the early signs that he'll be able to be Dallas' needed third scorer. He got to the rim, knocked down shots off the dribble, and was letting it fly from deep with confidence.

Even though Thompson did show flashes that he can do other things on offense, the biggest thing that he is going to be asked to do is knock down open shots. Jason Kidd is going to make things easy for him, and they are going to find unique ways to get him involved which could turn Dallas into the best 3-point shooting team in the NBA.

All of the looks that Derrick Jones Jr. and Josh Green got last season will now be going to Thompson, and his off-ball gravity is only going to make things easier for Doncic and Irving. He was truly the perfect signing for the Mavs, and he is going to be a dream fit.

He is quietly going to change everything for Dallas due to the attention that he commands on the perimeter, and his off-the-catch shooting excellence can't be undermined. Thompson will go down as one of the best shooters ever, and him showing off his shooting touch just a couple of weeks before training camp is what every Mavs fan wants to see.

All he has to do is hit open shots and play some defense, and if he can do that consistently, the Mavs will find themselves near the top of the Western Conference once again.
