At the end of his Golden State Warriors tenure, Klay Thompson had it go rough, but he was still a threat on the court all the time. However, that didn't stop the Dallas Mavericks from completing a sign-and-trade for one of the best 3-point shooters of all time.

Thompson joining Dallas could help make Dallas a bigger free agent destination in the future, but something is constantly being asked heading into the new season: how will Thompson fit into the Dallas system?

Head coach Jason Kidd has a lot of pressure on him to make sure Thompson fits in well with the dynamic duo of Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. With two elite players, Thompson could find himself in a great position to succeed in Dallas, and be in a position he can be comfortable.

Mavericks will be lethal with Klay Thompson as the third option

Patrick Beverley sat down on the OGs Show Podcast and talked about how Thompson wanted freedom on the floor.

"I didn't see that coming, but again, he took less money," Beverly said. "He just want freedom. I want to be able to hoop."

It was clear that after a painful last game with the Warriors when Thompson shot 0-of-10 from the field in the Warriors' loss to the Sacramento Kings in the Play-In Tournament in April, Thompson wanted a fresh start with a new team. Dallas became a team that expressed interest along with the Los Angeles Lakers, but Dallas was able to acquire Thompson.

While Thompson admitted the end of his Warriors tenure ended rough, pressure has come off his shoulders in Dallas. Thompson had pressure to be the Warriors' second option to score was consistent. But, Thompson can be a successful and deadly third option to score with his elite 3-point shooting on the Mavs.

Beverly said "yes" when Mike Miller asked him "is it really freedom over there [in Dallas]?" Beverley explained how it could be freedom.

"For him to have an ability to be a bail out guy at the third option," Beverley said.

It's no secret that Doncic and Irving will carry the load for the Mavericks in scoring, but Thompson can be primed to be the third scorer on the Mavs. With a lot of focus that will be on Doncic and Irving, Thompson will have the ability to get open in the corner or on the wing to make 3-pointers.

Udonis Haslem put a good amount of pressure on Kidd to have Thompson work well in Dallas. Kidd already has pressure on himself to make sure the Mavs' starting lineup is a good one to run the West again, but having Thompson makes it tougher. For more news on Thompson and the Mavericks, stay tuned.
