The Dallas Mavericks are swinging for the fences this summer.

After their 2023-24 season ended with a loss in the NBA Finals, Dallas had some work to do. Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving needed a consistent third scorer and the team needed more shooting. Badly.

The Mavs got right to work as the offseason began as they traded for Quentin Grimes, but when their offseason really began was when they signed Klay Thompson. Dallas signing Thompson is their biggest free agent signing of all time, and he looks like he is going to be an amazing fit.

He and Doncic are going to dominate when they share the floor due to the attention that Doncic commands when the ball is in his hands, and Thompson's shooting is going to be a huge help to Dallas' offense. Despite the exciting on-court potential of Thompson being a beast for the Mavs, there is plenty of excitement about Thompson's off-court fit as well.

Thompson planning trip to Catalina Island shows he's a true Maverick

Thompson's leadership is something that Dallas will benefit from and he has already shown plenty of leadership before even taking the floor.

Almost the entire Mavericks team took a trip out to Los Angeles last month to hang out and train, and Thompson revealed that he planned the group's trip to Catalina Island during that trip to California. Thompson said that Catalina Island is "one of (his) favorite places," and he will "cherish that memory forever."

Thompson said they spent the day jumping off the boat, swimming, and riding jet skis, and he seems fully invested in diving right into Mavs culture. He said that he enjoyed getting to know his new teammates, and was happy to provide this memory for his new teammates considering that the season will be here in just over a month.

Thompson planning this day of fun for his teammates shows he much he already cares, and his fit looks like it is going to be seamless in Dallas. Last season, Thompson lost some of his joy for the game while playing for the Golden State Warriors, and this had to have taken a toll on him mentally and physically.

He wasn't playing like the same Klay Thompson that everyone knows him to be at times, and having an inconsistent role would be hard for any player. Thompson felt disrespected by the Warriors, and the Mavs provided him with the perfect opportunity for a fresh start.

He isn't going to be asked to do too much offensively and he no longer has the pressure on him to be the second guy as he was for the Warriors. Thompson is going to start on the wing next to Doncic and Irving, but he won't have as heavy of an offensive load as he did in Golden State.

Thompson will just have to knock down open shots from the corners and above the break and play good defense. This isn't to say that Dallas won't look for different ways to get him involved and run actions for him to get open shots, and he is going to be more of a complimentary scorer than he is a star player.

This is the perfect place for Thompson to do that, and he seems locked in on his new opportunity in Dallas. Fit on and off the court is vital in the NBA, and Thompson is already showing that he is going to be an outstanding fit in Dallas due to the care he has for his new teammates.

Thompson wants to win his fifth ring in Dallas, and the Mavs are poised to give him a great shot at doing that.
