The 2023 NBA Draft is less than two weeks away, and rumors are heating up around the NBA world.
Portland seems open to trading the third-overall pick, the Magic reportedly want to move into the top five, and some news surrounding the Dallas Mavericks being interested in a particular player broke on Thursday night.
This is unusual for the Mavericks as they typically don't disclose any information about the draft and their potential interest in prospects. They move in silence when it comes to the draft.
Mavericks rumors: Dallas "really likes" star point guard prospect ahead of 2023 NBA Draft
Anthony Black worked out for the Mavericks on Sunday, June 4, at the American Airlines Center. No news came out following the workout, which was typical, but Dalton Trigg of Dallas Basketball broke the silence on Thursday night as he published a story revealing what a reliable source heard regarding what Dallas thinks of Black.
The source told Trigg, "they 'really liked' what they saw and had 'high praise' for him afterwards."
Black is consistently mocked in the top 10 of the draft, but falling to Dallas isn't impossible. Some rumored risers like Bilal Coulibaly could climb into the top ten and cause a highly-regarded player to fall to Dallas at pick 10. One of those highly-regarded players could be Black.
He averaged 12.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 2.1 steals per game as a freshman at Arkansas. He would fit great on the Mavericks as he can guard multiple positions and has a solid handle for being 6'7.
Stay tuned to see if Dallas drafts Black with the tenth overall pick or even trades up to take him. They likely don't have the assets to do that, but if they like him as much as it seems, it's possible. We've seen how aggressive Nico Harrison is on the trading block, and if he thinks Black can be a game-changer for this team, he'll figure something out.
This is just the beginning of draft rumors surrounding the Mavericks, and we'll have you covered.
