The Dallas Mavericks have had one of their most eventful offseasons in recent memory.

They may be looking to still add to their new and improved roster, especially with some recent reported interest on one young guard.

The Mavericks have reportedly shown some interest in former Pistons guard Malachi Flynn.

There are concerns about that if the Mavericks decide to go that direction.

Mavericks need to stray away from Malachi Flynn

Flynn has been growing as a player. He's 26 years old and has a nice upside as a bench player. His best NBA performance came last season when he scored 50 points off the bench against Atlanta.

The Mavericks seem to be getting closer in contact with Flynn. According to Dalton Trigg, he has worked out with the Mavs.

However, the Mavs have several options in terms of veteran players at their disposal. They have plenty of opportunities to turn back the clock and get some former players.

Mavs fans would love to see former fan favorite, Dennis Smith Jr. His backcourt depth would be needed on the defensive end while the Mavs have already proved to sign better shooters like Klay Thompson and Quentin Grimes.

A guy like Smith Jr. at this point in his career would not have to be a reliable dribble drive scorer like he was early in his career. Smith Jr. is 26 years old just like Flynn. But Mavs fans would love to see him in a Dallas uniform again, and his role would be a dependable bench player who can put up some numbers.

His best season was actually with Dallas in his rookie year in the 2017-18 season. He averaged 15.2 points and 5.2 assists per game. His minutes per game have gone down in his career but he wouldn't have as much pressure as he did as a rookie on a rebuilding team.

Another name to be looked at is another former Maverick, Spencer Dinwiddie. He made perimeter shots at a high clip and was involved in Luka Doncic's first ride in a Western Conference Final appearance.

Former seasoned Maverick players would be welcomed with open arms, especially since the organization already knows these players, Mavs GM Nico Harrison would likely be more than happy to shake their hands once again.
