The Dallas Mavericks' offseason got off to a scorching-hot start over the last few weeks, as they landed Klay Thompson in a sign-and-trade while also signing Naji Marshall and trading for Quentin Grimes.
They added one of the greatest shooters ever along with two players who will play heavy minutes in the rotation, and Thompson in particular can't wait to get to work. He signed with the Mavs to get a fresh start, and he turned down more money and more years from the Lakers to sign with Dallas.
Thompson is locked in on winning his fifth ring, and although most of the news around the Mavs has been positive this summer, they were hit with some unfortunate news yesterday as Kyrie Irving broke his left hand.
Kyrie Irving drops honest update after breaking his left hand
Irving did a great job of staying healthy through Dallas' playoff run, and now he has some time to recover from his hand injury ahead of next season.
There is optimism that Irving could return by training camp, and Irving provided an update on his broken hand on X last night.
Irving first thanked the messages and prayers for fans that were looking out for him, and then said "GOD truly knew that I needed to take a break from Basketball after the long season and give myself some time to heal." He then said that he loves to get better at the game, but now will be the time that he rests and gets back to 100 percent.
Irving is in positive spirits following his broken hand, and he was honest about needing to get some rest following the season. He played in every game in the playoff run and was healthy for the final two months of the season.
This was a tough blow to lose Irving for a large chunk of the offseason, but it's better that he got injured now rather than during the season. Irving saw how close this team was to winning the NBA Finals last season, and the Mavs are going to do everything they can to get back to that point next season.
For all the latest on Kyrie Irving and the Dallas Mavericks all offseason long, stay tuned.
