Over the last few weeks, the Dallas Mavericks have nearly had a perfect offseason.

They kicked things off by trading Tim Hardaway Jr. and three second-round picks to the Detroit Pistons for Quentin Grimes, and they followed that move up by signing Naji Marshall. Both of those moves helped the Mavs' shooting and defense, but their biggest move didn't come until a couple of days later.

Dallas completed a sign-and-trade for Klay Thompson, and he is poised to be the new starting small forward for the Mavs. While this move has everyone excited right now, some recent news about star point guard Kyrie Irving has made Mavs fans the opposite of excited.

Mavericks are optimistic that Kyrie Irving will be ready for training camp

According to Mavs PR, Irving broke his left hand in a workout earlier this month, and he has already undergone surgery to repair it. While this news is exactly what Mavs fans didn't want to hear about their superstar guard, a Dallas source did provide some clarity on the team's thoughts on Irving's injury.

According to Tim MacMahon of ESPN, there is "optimism," according to a team source, that Irving will be ready to go when training camp begins in September. This is a great sign, especially considering Irving's importance to the team, and Mavs PR said they will provide updates on the injury in the future when "appropriate."

This injury came at a good time considering that we are in the middle of the offseason, and hopefully, this hand injury doesn't affect Irving's game too much. It's a positive considering that it's Irving's off-hand, but he was also extremely dominant with his left hand down the stretch.

He heavily uses his left hand when finishing around the rim, but not to worry, as a full recovery should allow him to return to the same finisher that he was last season. Irving stayed healthy for the entirety of Dallas' postseason run, and hopefully, he can bounce back from this and be as durable as he was down the stretch.

A Mavs team source saying that there's hope that Irving can return for training camp is a good sign, and we will provide updates on this injury as they're reported.
