The Dallas Mavericks still have a roster spot available, and it is unclear what direction they're leaning.

They've been linked to some wings over the past few weeks such as Kelly Oubre Jr. and Derrick Jones Jr., and they've also been linked to some guards such as Malik Beasley.

The Dallas Mavericks seem to have enough guards, but it looks as if they're interested in one of the top remaining free-agent shooting guards.

Rumors: Dallas Mavericks interested in top remaining free agent guard

Brian Wolfson of KSTP reported that former Minnesota Timberwolves guard Jaylen Nowell is "on Dallas' radar" on his podcast "The Scoop w/ Doogie."

He also said that there is a "mutual understanding" that Nowell isn't coming back to the Timberwolves, and his camp is waiting on the potential Damian Lillard blockbuster to happen and "letting things play out."

Last season for the Timberwolves, Nowell averaged 10.8 points, 2.6 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 0.6 steals per game. He is good at creating his own shot and uses his handle to get to his spots. Nowell is also an underrated passer and is a good decision-maker when going downhill.

Despite being a solid scorer, Nowell struggles as a shooter and defender. He shot 28.9 percent from three last season on 3.6 attempts per game.

The Mavericks don't seem in any rush to make a move, but Nowell is a player to keep your eye on. He would be a good scorer off the bench, but his playing time would be a question mark in Dallas. The Mavs already have several solid guards that will come off the bench in Seth Cury, Jaden Hardy, and Tim Hardaway Jr. (if they don't trade him).

Nowell would be fighting for minutes with all three players, and his fit in Dallas would be questionable with the way the roster is currently constructed.

If the Mavs decide to sign a guard, Nowell is a name to watch. There are still plenty of things that could happen this offseason, as the Mavs could make a trade for a starting big or move Tim Hardaway Jr. If the Mavs make a blockbuster trade, they could lose some of their guard depth, and Nowell could be a player they sign to bolster their guard room and give them another young player.

Stay tuned to see if the Mavericks sign Jaylen Nowell to give them another scorer off the bench. We'll have you covered with all the free agency buzz leading into next season.
