Could Dallas Mavericks trade for OG Anunoby this offseason?
By Tyler Watts
The Dallas Mavericks must upgrade their roster this offseason. Defense and rim protection will be the focus, but the Mavs need depth, size, and someone else that can create with the ball in his hands too. It will be a massive offseason with gigantic implications, and Dallas cannot afford to get it wrong.
The Mavericks need a 3-and-D wing and a new starting center to get back to the playoffs next season. Their defense cratered after trading Dorian Finney-Smith to the Brooklyn Nets to get Kyrie Irving. Now, Irving is a free agent with no guarantees that he returns. Dallas must re-sign him and find a perimeter stopper on the trade market.
Could OG Anunoby be that guy? The Raptors are facing an important offseason of their own, and need to make moves. Would Toronto trade the 6’7 wing? What would it cost the Mavs to acquire him? Here is a closer look.
Dallas Mavericks need a 3-and-D wing: Is OG Anunoby available?
Acquiring a wing never comes cheap. Every team wants multiple options, and ones with size, shooting, and defense are difficult to find. High demand and low supply creates a seller’s market.
Anunoby is the ideal 3-and-D wing. He’s 6’7 and can guard any position on the floor along with being a 37.5 percent career 3-point shooter with the scoring and shot creation ability to put up 17 points per game. He is the piece every championship team needs, and the 25-year-old is just entering his prime.
If the Raptors decide to retool, they could make OG Anunboy available, but what would it take to acquire him?
