The Dallas Mavericks lost their second-leading scorer when Jalen Brunson departed in free agency. Losing him for nothing was a massive misplay by the front office, but they improved the frontcourt this summer as they look to build a title contender around superstar Luka Doncic.

The Mavericks traded for Christian Wood, signed JaVale McGee, and drafted Jaden Hardy. They cleared the backend of their roster to create the opportunity to upgrade their rebounding and rim protection. Dallas accomplished that goal, but losing Brunson still left a bad taste in fans’ mouths.

The Mavs improved their roster, despite JB’s departure. They are deeper and more versatile, and Dallas may not be done. The Mavericks only have 14 players under contract, and they are still searching for another playmaker. Training camp is five and a half weeks away, so the Mavs could be stuck with their current alignment.
