2022 NBA Draft mock #6: Minnesota Timberwolves: Caleb Houstan
Houstan profiles as the 3-and-D wing that every team covets. He is 6’8 and 205 pounds before reaching his 19th birthday. The Canadian defends well on the perimeter and has the size and length to be a switchable option in the NBA. His ability to jump passing lanes and create easy buckets is impressive. Houston also has a quick and fluid jumper that should translate to the pros.
He led Canada to the bronze medal at the FIBA Under-19 World Cup by averaging 17.0 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 2.3 steals in 31.7 minutes per over seven games at the event. The 6’8 wing’s ability to pop on both ends of the floor stood out in Latvia.
Houstan is set to play for the University of Michigan this season where he will be looking to showcase his improved his ball-handling, passing, and off-the-dribble game. His 3-point shooting is something to watch, especially if Houstan can connect from NBA range.
The Minnesota Timberwolves keep trying to add talent as they look to make the playoffs for just the second time since 2004. They already have two former number one overall picks in Karl-Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards. Adding a strong 3-and-D wing like Caleb Houstan could be the piece that pushes them back to the postseason.
