2022 NBA Draft mock #28: Philadelphia 76ers: Keegan Murray
Murray was on the Big Ten All-Freshman team last season after averaging 7.2 points, 5.1 rebounds, 0.8 steals, and 1.3 blocks in just 18.0 minutes per game. The 6’8 forward enters his second season at Iowa primed to take a massive leap. His ability to rebound, protect the rim, and defend on the perimeter has scouts intrigued. Murray has plus length, and he could quickly make an impact on the defensive end.
The 21-year-old hit just 16 of his 54 3-point attempts during his freshman season, but there is plenty of room for improvement. Murray has solid shot mechanics, but he needs to find consistency and perhaps speed things up a bit.
The rest of his offensive game is a work in progress. He finished well around the rim as a freshman, but he cannot create his own shot. Murray should have a larger opportunity this season, and fans will have to wait to see what he does with it.
The Sixers have plenty of uncertainty at this moment after Ben Simmons asked to be traded out of Philadelphia. What do they get in return for the 25-year-old All-Star? Simmons is a key piece of their defense, but the Sixers could go anywhere with his selection. Keegan Murray offers 3-and-D upside with some safety that he will be able to make an impact defensively.
