2022 NBA Draft mock #20: Atlanta Hawks: Dyson Daniels
Daniels was Australia’s star player at the FIBA Under-19 World Cup where he averaged 14.0 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.6 assists, and 2.3 steals in 26.6 minutes per over the seven games. The Boomers finished tenth in the tournament, but Daniels made a massive impression.
There is a lot to like about his game. The 6’6 wing is aggressive on both ends of the floor as he competes hard and has the size to guard multiple positions. Daniels also has a strong floater that will pay dividends in the NBA.
The 18-year-old likely slips outside the lottery because of his athletic ability and inconsistent 3-point shot. Daniels struggles to get all the way to the rim when driving, and he is not an explosive athlete. The 6’6 wing can shoot it from 3-point range but lacks consistency. The jumper looks solid, so improvements could be coming in this area.
Dyson Daniels is playing for the G League Ignite this season and should have plenty of opportunities to shine. He has some passing and playmaking ability to go with his size and developing jumper, but his path to being picked in the lottery is eliminating his weaknesses.
