2022 NBA Draft mock #19: New York Knicks: Jaime Jaquez Jr.
Jaquez Jr. is not going to jump off the screen or blew the opposition away with his athleticism. The 20-year-old is the role player every playoff team needs because he is going to compete hard on both ends of the floor and star in his assignment. The 6’7 wing can guard multiple positions and will give his maximum effort.
Jaquez Jr. is entering his third season at UCLA. He was a starter and defense-first player as a freshman. Last season, he took on a larger role in the offense to the tune of averaging 12.3 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 1.2 steals in 34.9 minutes per game.
Jaquez Jr. has to prove that he can consistently knock down jumpers. He shot just 31.3 percent from 3-point range as a freshman, but that jumped to 39.4 percent last season. If the 6’7 wing shoots over 38 percent and continues to shine on defense, he has lottery potential.
The Knicks are searching for defense and shooting to put in head coach Tom Thibodeau’s system. Jaime Jaquez Jr. fits right in as a 3-and-D prospect that should be ready for NBA minutes from the opening night of his rookie season. The 20-year-old has the potential to grow into a starter and key contributor too.
