2022 NBA Draft mock #12: San Antonio Spurs: Jabari Smith
Smith has scouts impressed and many view him as a top ten pick heading into the 2021-2022 season. The 6’10 forward is dripping with basketball skill. He is a nightmare to guard in the mid-range with his impressive jab fake jumpers. The 18-year-old could expand his range beyond the 3-point line and be the stretch four teams desire.
There are two worries about Smith’s game translating to the NBA as he enters his freshman season at Auburn. He is extremely skinny at this point. Can the teenager add muscle and size during what projects to be his lone college season? The other worry is his position. NBA teams would love to put his skill set at the five, but his size won’t allow it. Can he add enough mass or does he have to change positions?
Smith has a ton of potential. He could be a rim-protecting stretch five with the versatility to score at all three levels. It is why some teams will have him firmly in the top ten on their boards. Jabari Smith is a high-risk high-reward draft choice. Whatever organization drafts him has to believe they can help the teenager reach his potential.
