Jokic just exposed why Nico would've never allowed him to join Doncic on Mavericks

With the Oklahoma City Thunder defeating the Denver Nuggets in a Game 7 rout on Sunday, the young core in OKC is just one step closer to their first NBA Championship, just one year after losing to the Dallas Mavericks in six games.

The Nuggets have been led by their three-time MVP, Nikola Jokic for 11 seasons now. He and Jamal Murray have become one of the more recognizable duos in the NBA. Despite not being teammates, Jokic has also built a relationship with Luka Doncic. Over the years, we've seen the friendship of Jokic and Doncic become incredibly close. As two of the best players in the world, the two superstars have met in plenty of regular-season and All-Star games, and they're always seen hanging out when they're in the same city.

It was a pipe dream for many Mavs fans for Jokic to grow tired of Denver to eventually join his friend Doncic in Dallas. Now, with Doncic being traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, it looks tougher than ever for the two stars to team up. Following Denver being eliminated by Oklahoma City, Jokic talked about something that Nico Harrison wouldn't like at all, and would pretty much erase any chance Jokic ever had at becoming a Maverick.

Jokic's beer habit erased any shot at becoming a Maverick with Doncic

The Mavericks organization didn't hide how they felt about Doncic's habits of conditioning, as they were worried that his increased weight was becoming a liability. In his last full season with Dallas, Doncic led the NBA in scoring and was also recognized as an All-NBA First Team selection for the fifth consecutive year.

Jokic also being one of the best players in the world would've been a great addition with Doncic in Dallas, but with Jokic also being a beer guy himself, there's no chance that Harrison would take a chance on Jokic at all.

"But for now, next couple of days is gonna be a lot of beer probably," Jokic responded when asked about his plans for this offseason.

The first time we noticed something concerning was when the Mavs just beat the Minnesota Timberwolves in five games in the Western Conference Finals one season ago. It was former Mavericks forward and assistant GM Michael Finley taking away Doncic's beer after he was celebrating Dallas making their first NBA Finals appearance in 13 years.

Nobody thought that less than a year after making the NBA Finals, that Harrison would do the unthinkable to trade away Doncic. It seemed like Doncic would only drink beers whenever he knew he deserved it, just like his historic 60-point triple-double against the New York Knicks, where Doncic told Jeff "Skin" Wade that he needed a "recovery beer."

Drinking on occasion is part of many young athletes' lives, whether they want to admit it or not, and Doncic was no different.

Even Jokic drinking his beers to reflect on the season wouldn't matter to Harrison. He made it very clear that if you drink beer or smoke hookah, you don't belong on the Mavs, period.
