Is Klay Thompson playing tonight? Jazz at Mavericks update for October 10
By Noah Weber
The Dallas Mavericks debut of Klay Thompson was one of the most anticipated storylines heading into the preseason.
Thompson signed with the Mavericks early in the offseason on a three-year, $50 million deal, and fans can't wait to see him take the floor. He is eager to take the floor and prove all the doubters wrong from last season, but fans weren't able to see him take the floor in Dallas' first preseason game.
Thompson missed Monday night's game against the Memphis Grizzlies due to rest, and he also didn't participate in Sunday's Fan Jam. He did come up for a pregame warmup against the Grizzlies though, and was on the bench during the game.
Klay Thompson is set to make his Mavericks debut vs Jazz
Before Dallas' game against Memphis, Jason Kidd said that Thompson would likely play in Dallas' final three preseason games, and considering they only have three games including tonight, Thompson will be ready to go for their game against the Utah Jazz tonight. Kidd confirmed this in his pregame presser, and fans are fired up for his debut.
He is fully healthy and the American Airlines Center is going to be rocking for Thompson's first game.
Mavs fans were begging for coach Luka Doncic to put him in during Fan Jam, and the fanbase has already shown him tons of love since he has been in Dallas. He is the biggest free agency acquisition in franchise history, and his addition to the Mavericks system is going to be a huge help to Doncic and company.
The Mavs needed shooting badly after losing in the NBA Finals to the Boston Celtics, and they went out and got the best shooter on the market in Thompson. He is ecstatic to be a Maverick and needed a fresh start badly. He lost some of his joy for the game during his last season with the Golden State Warriors, and being in a new organization should help him get that comfortability back.
Mavs fans have been going wild for Thompson, and tonight will be the perfect chance for fans to see how he plays next to Kyrie Irving and Dereck Lively II. Irving missed Monday night's game as well with rest, and Kidd said he'll likely play in the final three preseason games just like Thompson.
Lively II put on a show in Monday night's game against Memphis, and he showcased a new part of his game as he pushed the ball the length of the floor and scored at the rim. This was the highlight of the night, and he shows more in his game by the day.
Lively II's passing out of the short roll is one of the many reasons that Thompson will fit into this starting lineup like a glove, and it'll be wild to see Thompson playing in a different jersey (other than the Warriors) for the first time in his NBA career tonight against the Jazz.
