Klay Thompson's blunt Mavericks plan is Warriors fans' worst nightmare

When the Dallas Mavericks signed Klay Thompson over the summer, fans couldn't wait to see him play with Luka Doncic. Dallas hadn't done the best job of surrounding Doncic with knockdown shooters over the course of his career, and Thompson is obviously an all-time great in that area. His incredible shooting helped him win four rings for the Golden State Warriors, and fans couldn't wait to watch the next chapter of his career in Dallas.

Thompson was fired up to play with Doncic and compete for a title this season for the Mavs, but things have changed significantly since the summer when it comes to the Mavs' roster construction. They traded Doncic at the trade deadline, and rather than contending for a title, they are fighting for a spot in the Play-In Tournament with less than two weeks remaining in the season.

This has to be far from what Thompson was expecting when he signed with Dallas, as he envisioned himself being one of the missing links to get the Mavs across the finish line and return to the NBA Finals, but even with the tough circumstances, he is staying true to his new home in Dallas.

Klay Thompson makes bold proclamation about his future in Dallas

After the Mavs' win over the Chicago Bulls on Saturday, Thompson talked about his time in Dallas now playing alongside Anthony Davis as well as the future, and his quote should have Mavericks fans excited.

"I love being his teammate, I love playing off him," Thompson said about Davis. "And can’t wait to build, not just for this year, but for the future. We got a really deep and talented team, and one day Kyrie will be back in the lineup too, and that will be a special moment when we will be able to share the ball together again."

Thompson continued to talk about how he has had success in the past playing with Kyrie Irving and Davis, and he wants to keep that success rolling in Dallas. He played with both of them in the FIBA World Cup in 2014, and they won a gold medal, and it doesn't sound like he has any interest in playing anywhere else.

The end of Thompson's time with the Golden State Warriors was rocky, as he felt disrespected when it came to his role and negotiations with his contract, and he was the type of player who seemed like he was going to finish his career in the Bay. Some Warriors fans clung to this reality, even after there were rumors that he wouldn't be coming back, and seeing him thrive in Dallas and be dedicated to building for the future is a major gut punch.

Warriors fans know Thompson better than anyone, as he spent the first 13 years of his career in Golden State, and they stuck with him through everything. Now it sounds like Thompson is going to stick in Dallas through thick and thin.

"We won a world championship together in 2014, so it’d be very nice to end our careers together, or at least my career with them, and hopefully win at a high level," Thompson said.

Thompson seems like he wants to finish his career off in Dallas, regardless of the team's new look, and that should give Mavericks fans a fresh breath of confidence heading into this offseason. Some fans feared that Thompson would request a trade this offseason, considering how different the roster looks from what he expected coming into the season, but it sounds like he wants to be a Maverick for the long haul.

Thompson and the Mavericks will look to bounce back from their loss to the Brooklyn Nets on Monday night on Wednesday when they battle the Atlanta Hawks, and we'll have you covered with all the latest.
