With one month left to go before the trade deadline, the Dallas Mavericks are looking to capitalize on possibly adding some pieces to their team for February and beyond.

With the Mavericks trying to get back into their groove after a dominant win against the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday night and a narrow win over the Portland Trail Blazers last night, there's plenty of reporting that indicates the Mavericks will likely make a move.

The question is how far will they go to get the depth necessary to hold the fort down with Luka Doncic out with a calf strain for the next few weeks or potentially even longer.

Grimes and Kleber are drawing trade interest

Nico Harrison was seen as a wizard when he got a steal in getting Daniel Gafford and P.J. Washington in two trades that propelled the Mavericks all the way to the NBA Finals last season. Now, with the trade deadline being less than a month away, newcomer Quentin Grimes and Maxi Kleber are among the names that are being linked to being traded (subscription required) according to ESPN's Brian Windhorst. He listed Grimes and Kleber as players on the Mavs "who have a market," and losing one or both of them would be hard for many Mavs fans to accept.

Grimes as a Maverick has been a pure, knockdown jump shooter. He's been reliable when the team has needed him by playing some of the best basketball of his career. He's averaging 10.4 points a game and shooting 41 percent from downtown. He's going to be a much-needed asset while Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving are sitting out, as they need a consistent scorer and ball handler in the backcourt.

Anybody that wants to get Grimes is going to have to pay a hefty price. With Harrison leading the way in the front office, there's no doubt that he's going to ask for a lot if Grimes is drawing trade interest like Windhorst is reporting.

Grimes leaving would hurt a lot, but as long as Harrison is leading the charge to get someone of similar value to replace him, Mavs fans shouldn't be too worried.

Maxi Kleber is a name that's been thrown around a lot as someone who's trade bait as well. He's been a reliable defender throughout his whole career, but his timid offensive behavior has recently made him unplayable at times. Kleber is valuable because he still plays in big minutes down the stretch in close games. His shot has been money from deep in the past, but he hasn't pulled them as confidently this season.

There's definitely some talk around moving Kleber, and fans have hoped they make a move for a guy like Obi Toppin, who has similar tools with increased scoring ability.

With the trade deadline getting closer, the speculation will only start to heat up. The point until then is for the Mavericks to play winning basketball each game at a time until their stars get healthier.
