At the 2018 NBA Draft, not many people would've thought that in just six years, Luka Doncic would be one of the greatest players to ever put on a Dallas Mavericks uniform in a short amount of time.
Doncic went on to accomplish feats that not many Mavericks have ever done. From leading the NBA in scoring, to leading the franchise to an NBA Finals after a 13-year drought, and averaging over 28 points per game in his Mavericks career. He was everything that Mavericks fans hoped for, and these fans' joy of watching him play is now over.
The Doncic era in Dallas ended this season in a shocking trade with the Los Angeles Lakers. Fans in Dallas still haven't recovered from trading such a beloved player. But now, the Doncic disrespect has continued yet again by the Mavericks in April. The leaks from the organization about Doncic over the last few months have been brutal, and they continue to make things worse for themselves.
Mavericks are trying to erase Luka Doncic's name from history
Earlier this month, the Mavericks put more disrespect on Doncic. The Mavericks have removed Doncic from their practice facility display, which is in the hallway leading to the practice court. They have a display box for multiple eras of Mavericks basketball, and Doncic can't be spotted in the current era's display box outside of the team photo in the bottom left.
A few updates to the Mavs’ memorabilia case of the present era: The display is now called “The Road Ahead,” which replaces “Mavs Magic.”

Doncic was a Mavericks legend, and they are trying to remove his name from Mavericks history. For what Doncic did for the Mavericks in just over 6.5 years is one of the best runs by a player in franchise history.
Doncic's success in Dallas in such a short amount of time isn't easy for anyone to replicate. From winning Rookie of the Year, to making five consecutive All-NBA First Teams, to leading a franchise back to the NBA Finals as a fifth seed, and having more iconic performances that fans will never forget. Doncic has earned the right to be called the second-best Maverick in franchise history behind Dirk Nowitzki.
For the Mavericks to remove Doncic from this display could be seen as them trying to make it seem like the Doncic era never existed. Before Doncic got to Dallas, the Mavericks had uncertainty on who to build their franchise around, as Nowitzki was nearing the end of his career. Luckily for them, Doncic became the face of the franchise immediately after they drafted him, and he got to play one year with Nowitzki before he retired.
Now, the Mavericks decide to remove him. Removing a legend like Doncic can make it seem that Doncic never played or accomplished anything while being in Dallas, which is disrespectful and wrong because Doncic became the face of the entire city of Dallas.
On Wednesday, Doncic will make his return to Dallas for the first time after being traded. Fans will show their love and appreciation for everything that Doncic has done, and this game is poised to be one of the wildest regular season games in team history.
However, with continuous shade thrown at him and because of him getting traded out of nowhere, Doncic may look at his return to Dallas as a game that is so personal toward Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison for trading him in the middle of the season.
Although the Mavericks got support from some about the trade, it still doesn't feel real that Doncic is no longer a Maverick. Dallas citizens have spread "fire Nico" chants like wildfire, and it won't stop anytime soon.
Doncic has more motivation with the Mavericks removing him to prove them wrong and put on one of the best games of his career. Doncic will be eager to help the Lakers get a win against his old team.
