The Dallas Mavericks must address their inconsistency at the power forward position before it's too late.

Part of starting this conversation stems from Maxi Kleber's injuries and unreliability.

This had also come from P.J. Washington's inconsistency earlier this year, but proved to get back on track in a massive game against Oklahoma City on Sunday night.

There's one player that that Mavs fans would love for defensive and personal purposes to help them bolster the power forward spot, and he may be the perfect player that Dallas should trade for.

Mavericks would be the perfect team to trade for Finney-Smith

Jad Katz of Brooklyn Nets on SI put together the "best fits" for Dorian Finney-Smith, and he ruled the Mavericks as one of the teams that should trade for him. Finney-Smith spent the first six and a half seasons of his NBA career in Dallas, and fans would be ecstatic if the Mavs found a way to bring him back.

If Nico Harrison could pull this off, it would be extraordinary. This would mean that two former Mavericks would reunite after being traded to the same team with Finney-Smith and Spencer Dinwiddie. This idea is not that far from the extreme, respectively.

This has been rumored before with a scenario of Dallas being interested in Dorian Finney-Smith during the middle of last season. It has also been reported that Finney-Smith would want to come back to the Mavs eventually, and both sides would likely be thrilled if this trade happened.

The 3-and-D player thrived next to Luka Doncic. He would've been even better next to Kyrie Irving as a guy to get good looks and play tight defense against opposing guards and forwards.

It was just two and a half years ago when Finney-Smith had his career high of 28 points in a Dallas uniform against Cleveland.

Finney-Smith's scoring would be greatly needed with Kleber being a hit-or-miss player. Kleber did have a season-defining performance against the LA Clippers in the playoffs last season, but his other scoring performances haven't been a story at all. Kleber's defensive abilities are greatly appreciated, but someone who can shoot consistently well is always needed on an NBA roster.

Another concerning point that could lead Dallas to make a move for another four would be the possibility of Washington going on another shooting slump. If that were to happen, there's not much power forward shooting depth, something that Dwight Powell or Kleber don't have much of.

At the age of 31, Finney-Smith coming back to Dallas would be a perfect fit for this part of his career. After all, he was teammates with Dallas legend Dirk Nowitzki for a few seasons. Someone who knows the front office staff extremely well would be nice for the team. The only question would be if Dallas gives up a first-round pick to land him.

He knows the coaches and management really well, and Maverick fans would welcome back Finney-Smith with open arms.
