Dallas Mavericks fans can now celebrate their No. 1 pick, Cooper Flagg, as they officially drafted him on Wednesday night. In what's been the craziest four months in Mavs history, emotion started taking over American Airlines Center when Flagg was picked at the draft watch party, and therefore officially ending any wild conspiracy of any trade talk around the NBA that Dallas would be sending Flagg elsewhere for an established superstar.

Mavs fans would've had every right to feel skeptical about Dallas potentially trading this pick. After all, Nico Harrison revealed that he didn't realize how important Luka Doncic was in the city of Dallas after he traded him, and his reasons for trading Doncic never fully made sense. Harrison knew the importance of Flagg being a generational draft pick and didn't waste any time picking him as one of the next faces of the NBA and the Mavs' new superstar. However, the Doncic trade and other organizational decisions have done too much damage to Mavs legend Dirk Nowitzki, as he has not been as connected as he once was to the franchise.

Nowitzki did come back to welcome Flagg to Dallas, but not in the way it was supposed to happen, in person at the Mavs' Draft Watch Party. Hopefully, the video message that Nowitzki gave to the Mavericks to display on the big screen at the American Airlines Center and to post on social media can start to rekindle a relationship between the Mavs organization and Nowitzki. Mavs fans miss Nowitzki being one of the faces of the franchise, and Harrison and Patrick Dumont have to find a way to get him invested in the team once again. Things don't feel right without him.

Nowitzki's message to Flagg may spark a repaired bond with Mavericks

It seems like Mavs fans are still not done being upset with Harrison. Fans were still chanting "fire Nico" in the American Airlines Center while the Mavs were on the clock, about to draft Flagg. Nowitzki showed up in a video message to wish Flagg luck in his career, with a heartfelt message to all Dallas fans alike.

"Dallas is a special place with the best fans in the NBA, and we can't wait to see your career here in Dallas, let's go," Nowitzki said.

This is great from Nowitzki for his kind words to Flagg. After all, Flagg wasn't the one who traded away Doncic in the middle of the night. This is also a lucky sequence, getting Flagg after being in the NBA Finals just over a year ago. Imagine if Dallas had failed to get someone else with not nearly as much hype as Flagg and didn't move up in the lottery, it makes us wonder if Nowitzki would've even been invited to make such a video for the Mavs.

Nonetheless, this is still some hope for Nowitzki to rekindle a relationship with Harrison and Dumont. The draft party included many Mavs media personalities and legends, butNowitzki's name wasn't on the list. This video was a nice surprise for Mavs fans, and it's something they may or may not have expected.

It's always key to keep a strong relationship with your legendary players and coaches. Nowitzki led the Mavs to their only championship in 2011 and endured one of the toughest playoff runs of all time. It's clear to see why he and most fans weren't happy when Doncic was traded. Now, there's a new era in Dallas, and it's time for both parties to shake hands and move on.
