One of the best feelings to have as an NBA owner is to know that a generational talent is about to change the whole landscape of your franchise. Cooper Flagg is about to change the Dallas Mavericks, and the Mavs have made history at the perfect time, just three months after GM Nico Harrison decided to move on from Luka Doncic by trading him to the Los Angeles Lakers.

This is a gift from basketball heaven, and it gives a shot for Mavs legend Dirk Nowitzki to come crawling back to the organization, after he was understandably disgusted by the Doncic trade. Mavs Governor Patrick Dumont made headlines for defending the Doncic trade, while also not including Doncic or Nowitzki on his list of players who would work hard.

Doncic and Nowitzki were one-of-a-kind players for the Mavericks, and this was no doubt a slap in the face to two of the greatest players to ever suit up in a Mavs uniform. Dumont has the Flagg pick to not just restore trust in the fans, but to also repair a relationship that's currently broken.

Dumont needs to repair his relationship with Nowitzki before it's too late

The signs are there for Nowitzki not to be attracted to his former team anymore. He was the mentor to Doncic, and once Doncic was traded, it changed Nowitzki's whole radar. He was hoping Doncic would follow in his footsteps and retire a Maverick, and that chance was never given. Nowitzki was right there in the stands watching Doncic's Lakers debut in Los Angeles, and he has barely been seen in Dallas since the trade.

After Dumont included Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Kobe Bryant, and Shaquille O'Neal in his group of players who worked hard while hrowing shade at Doncic, it seemed irreparable to get Dumont and Nowitzki to see eye-to-eye.

Dumont needs to use the momentum of the Flagg pick to lure Nowitzki back into Mavs lore. The organization seems like it quickly turned its back on the loyalty culture, and they have to find a way to make things right with Nowitzki. It's almost like the 21 years of dedication and hard work all of a sudden didn't mean anything after February 1.

It's up to Dumont to fix this and rekindle his relationship with Nowitzki.

Nowitzki hasn't been in the public eye as much since retiring back in 2019, but that will soon change when he joins his old teammate and friend, Steve Nash, for the NBA on Prime Video next season.

Nowitzki is an easily recognizable face in the city of Dallas. It's clear he's not been the same after the Doncic trade, and neither has the organization. Hopefully, Dumont can pick up the phone soon, and let's hope it's not too late for Nowitzki to accept his invitation to make things right.

Mavericks basketball doesn't feel the same without Nowitzki, and they have to find a way to make amends with him to get the good mojo back on their side.
