Los Angeles Lakers fans begged Anthony Davis to wear goggles during his time with the team, which ended in February when he was traded to the Dallas Mavericks, as he oftentimes got hit in the face, but he refused to do so since it wasn't a requirement from his doctor or the team. Now, he'll officially be wearing goggles for the rest of his NBA career.

On Dallas Mavericks Media Day on Monday, Davis confirmed that he'll be wearing protective eyewear for the remainder of his career after his eye doctor instructed him to do so. Davis underwent eye surgery to repair a detached retina earlier this summer, and he'll be rocking goggles for every game that he ever plays moving forward (assuming that his doctor's orders don't change).

Davis returned to the court for five-on-five work earlier this month, and the only sign of him having eye surgery was some visible redness that looked like it was near his pupil. He said that the eye drops that he is using are causing this, and he doesn't seem concerned about any long-term implications from this.

Anthony Davis reveals new trademark look for the rest of his career

Davis suffered this eye injury in a game against the Atlanta Hawks on February 2 after Daniel Gafford accidentally elbowed him in the face, and Mavs fans will be hoping that there aren't any more complications here. Davis finished this game against Atlanta after receiving four stitches and ended up having one of his best outings as a Maverick.

Davis put up 34 points, 15 rebounds, and five blocks in that game despite getting hit in the eye, and he finished the season out despite this injury.

Davis said that he learned that he would need eye surgery during a normal checkup appointment with his doctor during the offseason, and the recovery lasted for about four to five weeks. This recovery time allowed him to spend plenty of time with his family, and Jason Kidd said that he will be a full participant at training camp.

Davis, wearing goggles for the Mavericks moving forward, will protect him from any other serious eye injuries as his career goes on, and this was definitely the right move to ensure that he can stay as healthy as possible. Several Mavericks players, including Davis, emphasized the importance of staying healthy this season, and he is motivated to be on the floor as much as he can after only playing nine games for the Mavs last season.

Eye injuries seem like they'll hopefully be a thing of the past for Davis, as he quietly dealt with a couple of these injuries as a member of the Lakers, and Lakers fans' simple plea for him to wear goggles was fulfilled, just a few years too late.

Davis clearly wasn't the biggest fan of having to wear goggles, but he was willing to do it since his doctor said that it was a requirement now. He was never fully against wearing goggles if that's what was required of him, and now that it's a necessity, Davis will be sporting a new look that could quickly become his trademark.
