Dallas Mavericks: Predicting who makes the regular season roster
By Sean Bush
Following recent signings, the Dallas Mavericks will now have 21 players under contract. Here is an analysis on which players makes the final 15 man regular season roster.
This week has seen the Dallas Mavericks make a flurry of signings in preparation for training camp, which begins in late September. The team has agreed to sign Donte Ingram, Terry Larrier, Codi Miller-McIntyre, Devin Harris, Daryl Macon, and Ding Yanyuhang all in the last ten days.
This is nothing out of the ordinary for the Mavericks. Dallas is known to be aggressive in signing a lot of guys to low-risk deals and allowing them to battle it out for a roster spot in years passed. This year looks to be no different.
The majority of the roster is already in place. There is virtually no chance of Dirk Nowitzki, Harrison Barnes, Luka Dončić, Dennis Smith Jr., DeAndre Jordan, JJ Barea, Wesley Matthews, Dwight Powell, or Jalen Brunson not making the final regular season team.
With those nine players in the fold, that leaves 12 players to battle it out for the last six regular roster spots and two 2-way contracts spots. Let’s see if we can figure out who is in and who is out by looking at the prospective players and team needs.
*Reminder that each team gets two 2-way contract players. These players can move between the regular roster and the G-League affiliate roster but do not count towards the 15 man roster. For more on 2-way contracts, go here.
