The Dallas Mavericks have officially signed (per Dallas Mavericks writer, Bobby Karalla). This comes as a bit of a surprise as Macon came on to the scene for the Mavs fast without much forewarning. Macon and Kostas Antetokounmpo make up the two two-way contracts Dallas can offer.

It appears that the revolving door of two-way contracts that the Dallas Mavericks used last year will likely come to an end this season. After signing the 60th pick of the draft, Kostas Antetokounmpo, to the first two-way deal, it looked like he and Johnathan Motley may be the guys this year.

Then, news broke that Dallas chose to trade Motley for table scraps. Many were not happy with this decision, but it seemed like there was something else on the way for Dallas. Shortly after the trade, it was announced that the Mavs were bringing Daryl Macon to the team on a non-guaranteed deal.

Most probably don’t know much about Macon, but after his performance in the NBA Summer League, it was clear that he was a sought after player from a number of teams, most notably the Miami Heat and Dallas Mavericks. Macon chose to join the Mavs and it looks like Dallas is rewarding him with the two-way contract.

Last year, Dallas kept an eye on the available players and rolled out a handful of different guys under the two-way contract. With a draft pick and a highly doubted undrafted player now on the books, I don’t believe Dallas will go back to that strategy again this year.

Daryl Macon played his college ball at the University of Arkansas. During his two years as a Razorback, Macon averaged over 15 points and 3 assists per game. He also shot over 40% from three-point, including 42% in his second year. I expect that if the Mavs use Macon in the rotation, it will be as a two-guard, playing off the ball for his shooting stroke.

This move was a bit surprising for the Mavericks, who have a number of players that were hoping to be considered for that last two-way contract. Either way, we look forward to seeing what Macon can do for the team in the upcoming year.
