The Dallas Mavericks 2017-18 NBA schedule was released earlier today and there are some games that Mavs fans should definitely be looking forward to. Which games should you be tuning in for this year?

The Dallas Mavericks usually have a lot to look forward to every year when the schedule is revealed, but this year seems a little bit different. As opposed to waiting to find out what the team’s competition is normally, this year Dallas is much more focused on what the team can do to grow instead of compete.

That does not mean that there aren’t games to look forward to though. The Mavs always have entertaining matchups and teams that are worth seeing every single year. Those games are always fun and exciting but there are other milestones and games that will also be worth keeping an eye out for.

Aside from the usual matchups that people look forward to (San Antonio, Houston, LA Clippers, etc.) there will also be some fun games to see for various reasons. Here is just a short list of the games you should be marking on your calendars right now.

Wednesday, October 18th – Dallas Mavericks vs. Atlanta Hawks

This game has a few really important parts to it. Firstly, this is the season opener for the Dallas Mavericks. Secondly, it is the home opener for the Mavs in the American Airlines Center. Thirdly, the Hawks are likely entering a rebuilding year which means Dallas could easily be tied for first in the west after the game. Lastly, and most importantly, this will be the debut of Dennis Smith Jr. as an NBA player.

Monday, October 23rd – Dallas Mavericks vs. Golden State Warriors

More from The Smoking Cuban

This game is going to be fun mostly just to see the defending NBA champions and how Junior does defending a guy like Steph Curry. The Warriors are the best team in the league without question and seeing how some of our young guys matchup against them could be good signs to come. Harrison Barnes vs. Kevin Durant, Dennis Smith Jr. vs. Steph Curry, and Seth Curry vs. Klay Thompson will all be fin matchups to look forward to.

Saturday, January 13th – Dallas Mavericks vs. Los Angeles Lakers

The first matchup between Lonzo Ball and Dennis Smith Jr. is expected to be a great one and the fact that it doesn’t happen until the beginning of 2018 will bode well for viewership, provided both are performing to expectations. The Lakers are expected to make big strides this year in play and this game will be a good show on what to expect from one of the top teams of the future.

Sunday, April 1st – Dallas Mavericks at Cleveland Cavaliers

The Mavs and Cavs have had a fun little rivalry lately, despite the Cavaliers clear success and the Mavs lack thereof. Not to mention this could be the last time that two of the greatest players in NBA history take the court together in Dirk Nowitzki and LeBron James.

Tuesday, April 10th – Dallas Mavericks vs. Phoenix Suns

This is the last game of the season and, although playing against the Phoenix Suns is not the most exciting finish, this could very well be the last time we see Dirk suit up in a Dallas Mavericks uniform. As horrible as that sounds, it is a possibility. Dirk could also be nearing the next spot in the all-time scoring list as well. Could the top-5 happen?
