The Dallas Mavericks made a surprising trade to acquire Christian Wood before last season’s NBA Finals ended. They jumped at the chance to improve their rebounding, floor spacing, and scoring punch. It cost the Mavs four first-round picks and four players that were outside the playoff rotation. The trade allowed Dallas to clear some valuable roster space heading into the offseason too.

The disappointing part was letting Boban Marjanovic go. He was a key piece in the locker room, and superstar Luka Doncic’s best friend on the team. Bobi always brought the laughs, and his presence will be missed this season.

Marjanovic was traded to the rebuilding Rockets, so there was some question about whether he would stick in Houston. They traded Wood to Dallas in part to open up frontcourt minutes for Alperen Sengun. Bobi is the perfect third center, but does he fit in Houston? The latest rumors give fans their answer.

Rumors: Former Dallas Mavericks center Boban Marjanovic to make Rockets roster

Marc Stein reported (subscription required) that Marjanovic is expected to make the Rockets opening night roster, despite their logjam at the five.

It makes sense. The Rockets are a young team that is still learning, and Boban is one of the hardest workers in the league. He also lightens the mood in the locker room and is a fantastic veteran presence for young talent. Fans should not expect Marjanovic to play significant minutes on the court, but he will continue to be one of the best teammates in the league.

Sadly, the Dallas Mavericks will have to face Boban Marjanovic this season. The first of four matchups is scheduled for Nov. 16 in Dallas. Fans can expect Luka Doncic to be fired up to face his friend, and it could be a massive night for the Mavs star, so do not miss it.
