The Dallas Mavericks have struggled when superstar Luka Doncic is not in the lineup. They lost all four games he has missed and topped 100 points just once. Doncic is the engine of the team’s offense, and the Mavs are built around him, so their struggles without him should not be surprising.

Dallas has lost nine of their last 12 games, and the slump could get worse as Luka is set to miss multiple games. He re-injured his left ankle in Friday’s loss to the Pacers and had a telling postgame quote about his discomfort.

The Mavericks were quick to rule him out for Sunday’s game, and head coach Jason Kidd said the 22-year-old would miss multiple games. He did not rule out a return to the lineup on Wednesday when the Mavs host the Los Angeles Lakers, but Doncic should be considered questionable at best for that contest. Here is a look at the latest and why Dallas should be cautious with their young star.

Luka Doncic out multiple games with ankle injury

Kidd said Luka will not play in the team’s next two games, but the Mavericks would be smart to rest him until the ankle is 100 percent. Doncic missed three straight games the first time, and he has noted feeling the pain after multiple contests since. He continues to put up monster numbers, but the Mavs need number 77 healthy when it matters most.

They want to end their recent skid, and the best way to do it will be to have a healthy Luka. Expect the 22-year-old to miss multiple games, and be at full strength when he returns to the lineup. Dallas will need to make up some ground in the standings, so fans know Doncic will be playing his best.

Dallas Mavericks should check back to The Smoking Cuban for all the latest on Luka Doncic’s ankle injury and all things on the organization this season.
