The Dallas Mavericks have not found their footing since superstar Luka Doncic suffered an ankle injury in the final seconds of the Nov. 15 win over the Denver Nuggets. It forced him to miss three games and has been nagging the 22-year-old ever since.
The Mavericks lost their ninth game in the last 12 contests on Dec. 10. They scored just 13 points in the final quarter as the Indiana Pacers ran away with a 106-93 win. Things went from bad to worse when Luka rolled his left ankle again.
Doncic admitted after the game that he was not himself in the fourth quarter as he dealt with pain from the injury. His ankle is worrisome because the 22-year-old has been dealing with it for nearly a month and the only answer may be taking some time off.
Luka Doncic aggravates left ankle injury in loss to Pacers
Doncic produced another monster stat line in Indiana as he finished with 27 points, nine rebounds, nine assists, one steal, and one block in 37 minutes of action. He went 11 of 25 from the field, but just one of eight from 3-point range. It was a rough fourth quarter for Luka and the Mavericks as the team slipped to 12-13 on the season.
Dallas has ten games before the calendar flips over to 2022, so there is no time for Doncic to rest. The Mavs travel to Oklahoma City to face the Thunder on Sunday before hosting the Hornets on the second of a back-to-back come Dec. 13.
Luka should be considered questionable for Sunday’s game after re-injuring his left ankle. Fans should be watching his status closely as tipoff approaches. Hopefully, the 22-year-old can heal fast and help the Dallas Mavericks get back on track because the recent results have been ugly. The best is still yet to come from this year’s squad, so stay tuned.
