Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic continued his hot streak as Slovenia defeated Belgium 88-72 in the round of 16 in EuroBasket 2022. Slovenia was a massive favorite coming in, but they struggled against the Belgians, who do not have an NBA player on their roster. Belgium played and hard, but Luka and company were just too much in the final quarter.

Doncic had two straight historic performances to close the group stage, including a 47-point night in the win over France. The Mavs superstar did not stop there as he went for 35 to open the knockout stage. He drilled four 3-pointers and went nine of ten from the foul line in an impressive performance to keep Slovenia on track to repeat as EuroBasket champions.

Doncic wasted zero time getting going on Saturday as he nailed three 3-pointers before most of the fans back in Dallas finished their coffee. He had his step-back 3-pointer locked in early, and was putting on a show.

Belgium took a 64-63 lead early in the fourth quarter, but Doncic was not going to let his country lose. He immediately roared back with a five straight points to help the team lock in and jump start a dominating performance for remainder of the game. Luka finished with 35 points, five rebounds, five assists, and four steals in 35.7 minutes of action. He made 11 of 25 from the field and keyed the Slovenia run in the fourth to secure the victory.

It was Luka’s third consecutive 30-point game, and he became the first player to do that in EuroBasket in the last 30 years. Doncic has been incredible as helped Slovenia win the toughest group in the tournament and advance over Belgium.

Luka Doncic and Slovenia head into the quarterfinals on Wednesday where they will face the winner of Sunday’s matchup between Ukraine and Poland.
