Dallas Mavericks GOAT Dirk Nowitzki hosted his annual tennis classic on Sept. 25. It was the first time since 2019, but the Tall Baller from the G was excited to bring back the event and raise money for charity.

Luka Doncic agreed to take part in the event for the second time. Nowitzki gave a scouting report on Luka’s tennis ability before the event, and the topic came back up in the press conference before things got started on Sunday.

Dirk says he likes to tell Doncic to “stick to basketball”, but the 23-year-old superstar offered a challenge to the Mavericks GOAT. Here is the latest on the challenge and Nowitzki’s response.

Doncic offered to play Nowitzki one-on-one on the tennis court to solve who is the better player. Dirk playfully answered “any day” to Luka’s challenge. The duo did not play one-on-one at the event, but both of their games are better than fans think.

New Mavericks assistant coach Marko Milic offered this scouting report on Doncic, Nowitzki, and Brooklyn Nets head coach Steve Nash.

Who are you taking in a game of one-on-one on the tennis court? Luka has the edge in mobility, but Dirk is the more experienced and accomplished tennis player. Doncic dominated Mavericks vice president of basketball operations Michael Finely on the tennis court earlier this summer. Luka versus Dirk would be a game that all MFFLs would love to watch, even if it was just for the trash talk alone.

Luka took a loss on Sunday in a game of doubles to former tennis professional Andy Roddick. It was likely easy work for the former number one player in the world, but that does not mean Doncic does not have game on the tennis court.

Dirk Nowitzki’s tennis challenge looked like a blast and  plenty of laughs and trash talk were shared. Luka Doncic gets no time to rest as the Dallas Mavericks kick off training camp with media day on Monday, so stay tuned to The Smoking Cuban for all the latest.
