The Dallas Mavericks are almost done carving out their roster as they just signed Spencer Dinwiddie to a one-year deal to return to Dallas following a stint with the Brooklyn Nets and Los Angeles Lakers last season.

The Mavs needed another ball handler badly, and Dinwiddie chose the Mavs over the Lakers in free agency. More and more free agents continue to sign with the Mavs, and they are progressively becoming a hot free agency destination.

While Dinwiddie may not have been the same player he once was during his first tenure with the Mavs over the last year and a half, he has the chance to return to that same player this time around in Dallas. Dinwiddie was traded from the Mavs to the Nets as part of the Kyrie Irving trade in 2023, and this move looks even better for the Mavs now.

Mavericks' trade for Irving continues to look better as Dinwiddie returns

Considering that Dallas dealt Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith, and draft capital to the Nets for Irving and Markieff Morris, this trade was already a fleece job by the Mavs. Now that Dinwiddie is back on the Mavs, it's even more of a fleece job.

They just brought back one of the main pieces that headed to the Nets as part of this deal, and now he'll have the chance to fight for real minutes on this team. Dinwiddie joining the Mavs directly helps Irving, as he can help take pressure off of him when sharing the floor together, and this move continues to look better for the Mavs and worse for the Nets.

Irving has been amazing for the Mavs over his first season and a half with the team, and now he gets to reunite with a former teammate in Dallas. The possibilities are endless for ways the Mavs can involve Dinwiddie in the offense, and they are poised to be one of the top teams in the Western Conference once again next season.

They made the moves necessary to ensure another elite season, and the Dinwiddie signing is reflective of that.

The people who doubted the Mavs' trade for Irving were already eating their words before this move for Dinwiddie, and now they look even more ridiculous. Dinwiddie's return makes Dallas' trade for Irving look so much better, and this duo could spend big minutes together on the floor this season.
