The Dallas Mavericks had two starters in the 2023 NBA All-Star Game as Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving became the team’s first duo since 2010. Both were selected by LeBron James on Sunday. Fans know James is a fan of Luka and Kyrie, but Team LeBron lost for the first time since switching to the captains’ format.

Doncic was quiet in the All-Star Game loss, but Irving went off. The 30-year-old guard finished with 32 points, 15 assists, and seven rebounds in 29 minutes of action. Number 77 had just four points and five assists in Salt Lake City on Sunday night.

The All-Star Game did not disappoint, despite Giannis Antetokounmpo playing just one possession and LeBron James suffering a finger injury that kept him out of the second half. Here is a look at a few highlights from the Mavs superstar duo before diving into what is next.

The score was tied after the first quarter, but Team Giannis dominated the rest of the game. They won the second and third periods before being the first team to reach the target score of 182. Team LeBron fell to 5-1 under this All-Star format, and Luka lost for the first time in his four trips.

It was a quiet night for the NBA’s leading scorer, but he did get up for a dunk in the 2023 NBA All-Star Game. Doncic was mic’d up when he went up for the slam, and he offered a bit of humor after throwing it down.

Kyrie went off in another All-Star Game. He has now scored 20-plus points in four of his eight appearances. Irving loves to put on a show, and he did not Sunday night. The 6’2 guard showed off his handle and shot on his way to 32 points on 14 of 21 shooting from the field.

Luka Doncic did not always get back on offense as the All-Star Game offered plenty of outside jumpers and dunks. The best players in the world put on a show on Feb. 19, and it was fun to watch.

The Dallas Mavericks start with six straight home games after the All-Star break, and they need to go on a run. Dallas wants to make another playoff run, but that gets tougher without homecourt in any round. How will Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving mesh? Do they start maximizing each other’s talents and become an unstoppable duo? Stay tuned to find out.
