Draymond Green adds fuel to Mavericks rumors with Luka Doncic comment
By Tyler Watts
The Dallas Mavericks know how special Luka Doncic is, and that is why the pressure is on. No team with the 24-year-old superstar should miss the playoffs, and the franchise is worried that Luka will request a trade if the roster and the results do not improve next season.
Dallas saw up close how Stephen Curry and Draymond Green can impact a playoff series when the Dubs knocked out the Mavericks in the Western Conference Finals in 2022 on their way to the franchise’s fourth championship in eight years. Green is the heart and soul of the Warriors' defense, and they would not be a dynasty without the four-time All-Star.
Green’s time in Golden State could be coming to an end, and rumors of him joining the Mavericks have been circulating for months. The 33-year-old only added to the fire with his latest comments about Luka Doncic.
Draymond Green sparks Dallas Mavericks rumors with Luka Doncic talk
Green was suspended for Game 3 of the Warriors' first-round series against the Kings for stomping on Domantas Sabonis, but Golden State won to get back into the series behind a vintage performance from Stephen Curry. He had 36 points, and the Dubs outscored the Kings by 24 in his 37 minutes on the floor. Green paid respect to Curry’s performance by compairing it to jazz and mentioning Luka Doncic among the two greatest players of this generation. See his quote below.
"Steph Curry’s game last night was just jazz. It was beautiful. It was absolutely beautiful. He was in control of everything. There are not many guys in the league right now that can control a game like that. You’re talking Steph Curry, LeBron James… Luka. That really controls the entire pace of a game, everything that happens. It is so incredibly hard to do that."
Green shared a ton on Game 3 and his suspension on his podcast, which fans can listen to the full episode below.
Draymond Green has a $27.5 million player option for next season, and the four-time All-Star could opt out of his deal and become an unrestricted free agent. Rumors of him joining the Mavericks still feel farfetched, but there could be changes coming to the Warriors this summer. Green is a massive Luka Doncic fan, and crazier things have happened.
Where will Draymond Green play next season? He is not thinking about that. The 6’6 forward is focused on trying to help the Golden State Warriors win another championship, but rumors will continue to circulate. Will he end up in Dallas? Stay tuned to find out.
