Throughout the history of the franchise, the Dallas Mavericks have had their fair share of players who have won awards. From the most popular one being Dirk Nowitzki's MVP season in 2007, to Jason Terry winning Sixth Man of the Year in 2009. And, Jason Kidd and Luka Doncic each won Rookie of the Year in 1995 and 2019.

However, the Mavericks have also had other players in the organization that have won an award, but people forgot about. This is also the same with players on the Mavericks that people forgot were All-Stars.

The Mavs have had players and a coach that have won an award, but some might have forgotten about. But, who are they?

There are awards in the NBA that some people may never have heard before that somebody on the Mavericks has won, and they deserve to be recognized. There are also common awards like Sixth Man of the Year that a former player has won before in Dallas, and it has been somewhat forgotten over the years.

Blasts from the past begin in Dallas starting back in a memorable Mavericks season.

5. Roy Tarpley - 1988 Sixth Man of the Year

The Mavericks had high hopes for Roy Tarpley when they drafted him with the seventh overall pick in the 1986 NBA Draft. Hopes came through in year one when Tarpley was part of the All-Rookie First Team in 1987. Year two would be a big breakthrough for not only Tarpley but the Mavs too.

Tarpley won the NBA's Sixth Man of the Year averaging 13.5 points, 11.8 rebounds, 1.3 steals, and 1.1 blocks per game, and had a 50 percent field goal percentage. The Mavericks would reach the Western Conference Finals for the first time in franchise history.

Despite losing to the Los Angeles Lakers in a painful seven-game series, 1988 will always be the year the Mavs finally arrived in the NBA. Tarpley's play off the bench was a big part of the Mavs' success in 1988.

Tarpley passed away in January 2015 at 50 years old with liver problems, but will always be remembered for his time in Dallas.
