The Dallas Mavericks haven't made a move in a few weeks, but they made their biggest move of the summer at the start of free agency as they re-signed star point guard Kyrie Irving.
Dallas traded for Irving at the trade deadline last season, as they traded Dorian Finney-Smith, Spencer Dinwiddie, and multiple firsts to the Nets for them.
Irving's time in Dallas last season was not ideal, as the team missed the playoffs, but he and Luka Doncic hardly got any time together due to injury.
NBA Insider gives update on possibility of LeBron James and Kyrie Irving teaming up
The duo wasn't a picture perfect fit right away, but Irving seems dedicated to winning in Dallas.
Before Irving re-signed with the Mavericks, there were rumors that he wanted to recruit LeBron James to Dallas. James and Irving played for the Cleveland Cavaliers and won a championship together in 2017.
Nothing came of the James to Dallas rumors, but could the two team up eventually? One NBA Insider seems to think so.
Jovan Buha of The Athletic was on "The Athletic NBA Show" and talked about James and Irving's relationship and the possibility of them teaming up.
"LeBron was still pushing for Kyrie, as recently as this offseason...LeBron has still been very keen on potentially playing with Kyrie again. I wouldn't be surprised if those rumors pop up again closer to the trade deadline depending on what happens in Dallas."Jovan Buha
It seems that Buha thinks that the Los Angeles Lakers could make a push for Irving near the trade deadline, but what if James' desire to play with Irving gets him to Dallas? It would be hard for the Mavericks to make a trade for him, but it's not impossible.
James also has a player option after this season and could potentially be a free agent next summer. It would be much easier for Dallas to acquire him at the trade deadline because they wouldn't have the cap space to sign him outright, but anything can happen.
Dallas could make some big moves and create the cap space to get it done. It's extremely unlikely, but not impossible.
If the Mavericks' partnership between Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving doesn't work out, could we see the Mavs explore trading Irving at the trade deadline? It's a possibility, and James might push for the Lakers to make a move for him (and Buha "wouldn't be surprised" if the Irving to Los Angeles rumors start churning again at the trade deadline).
No one truly knows if Kyrie Irving and LeBron James will ever team up again, but it seems like the interest between the two is mutual. If a reunion happens between the two, it's more likely to be in Los Angeles, but don't count out the Mavs just yet.
Will the Dallas Mavericks eventually make a trade for LeBron James to form a big three with Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving?
It seems far fetched, but not impossible. We'll have you covered with all the latest surrounding Irving and the Mavs this summer, so stay tuned.
