Dallas Mavericks' top 3 'desirable trade assets' for 2024-25 season
By Noah Weber
2. P.J. Washington
P.J. Washington was the other player that the Dallas Mavericks traded for on the day of the trade deadline last season, and he helped turn Dallas' season around right away. Washington was a big upgrade over Grant Williams, and his willingness to buy into what Dallas was doing made him an instant fan favorite.
He played his role to a tee, and despite some early struggles, he proved his true value in the NBA Playoffs.
Washington was an absolute monster against the Oklahoma City Thunder in the second round, and they couldn't slow down his 3-point shooting. He averaged 17.7 points per game against Oklahoma City while shooting 46.9 percent from downtown and helped propel the Mavs to the Western Conference Finals.
Considering that Washington is only 26 years old and has two years left on his deal, the Mavs could get a good package back if they were to trade him. This would be a head-scratching move since he is arguably the best defender on the team and is a great fit at the four in the starting lineup, but he is someone who has great trade value nonetheless.
He hasn't even reached his prime yet, and he is going to be deadly if he can improve his jumper even more. Washington is going to be getting countless open looks from behind the arc since he'll be sharing the floor with Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving, and Klay Thompson, and Dallas' offense will be even more dynamic than expected if he can cash in these looks at a high clip.
