The Dallas Mavericks took a massive step forward this season. They vaulted into the top four in the Western Conference during the regular season and won their first playoff series in the Luka Doncic era. Dallas did not stop there as they knocked out the top-seeded Suns to reach the Western Conference Finals for the fifth time in franchise history as Doncic cement his superstar status with an incredible Game 7 performance.

The 2022 NBA Draft Lottery took place on May 17 with the Orlando Magic, led by former Mavericks assistant coach Jamahl Mosley, leaping up to grab the number one overall pick. Dallas was not part of the lottery, but fans can bet team officials were watching closely to see who landed the top selection.

The Mavs have their first-round pick this year, and the Stepien Rule prevents the front office from trading it until after the selection is made. Where will Dallas draft this season, and where do they stand in terms of future draft capital?

Where do the Dallas Mavericks select in the 2022 NBA Draft?

The Mavs have the 26th overall selection in this draft. Recent history suggests there will still be plenty of talent available at that pick. Robert Williams, Jordan Poole, Desmond Bane, Keldon Johnson, Kevin Porter Jr., Herb Jones, and Mavericks guard Jalen Brunson have all been picked 26th or later since 2018. Can Dallas find an impactful player or will they look to trade the selection for someone that can immediately step into their rotation?

The Mavs traded their second-round pick to Washington in Kristaps Porzingis deal that brought Spencer Dinwiddie and Davis Bertans to Dallas, so they have just one pick in the 2022 NBA Draft.

The Mavericks do not have a pick in the 2023 draft. They sent their first-rounder with a top ten protection to the Knicks in the original Kristaps Porzingis trade. That protection prevents Dallas from trading their 2025 first round, but they have 2027 and 2029 first rounders that can be moved if a marquee talent becomes available this summer.

The 2022 NBA Draft takes place on June 23, and it will be an important night for several franchises. Who grabs that franchise-altering star or key role player that lifts them into contention? Fans won’t want to miss it, so please be sure to tune in and enjoy.
