Rumors: Wizards star on trading block, could Mavericks be potential buyers?
By Jaren Boslow
On Tuesday, the Dallas Mavericks took on the lowly-seeded Memphis Grizzlies. For the Mavericks, this game was regarded as winnable as Grizzlies star Ja Morant was recently sidelined for the remainder of the season with a shoulder injury. In addition to Morant being out, center Jaren Jackson Jr. would miss last night's game with an injury of his own.
The Mavericks not only lost the game but got blown out embarrassingly. They would lose 120-103 in a game that saw very few positives on either end. The Grizzlies did a good job of exposing the Mavericks' lack of rebounding and interior presence as they finished the game with 18 offensive boards and 56 points in the paint.
Since the beginning of the season, fans have been calling for the front office to upgrade on the perimeter and defensively. Recently, Toronto superstar Pascal Siakam has been rumored to be on the move this season and the Mavs have shown interest in him.
Rumors: Wizards star on trading block, could Mavericks be potential buyers?
Dallas was also recently labeled as the betting favorites to land the former NBA Champion.
Despite the recent rumors, one name has emerged on the trade block that could grasp the attention of the Mavericks. Washington Wizards forward Kyle Kuzma has recently been labeled on the trading block. The Wizards rank 14th in the Eastern Conference and are three games ahead of the Detroit Pistons for last place.
Kuzma has broken onto the scene during his time in Washington. After being traded to Washington during the 2021-22 NBA season, Kuzma's production has skyrocketed. This season, Kuzma has averaged 22.6 points, six rebounds, and six assists, all while shooting 46 percent from the field.
The Mavericks are a team that could be potential suitors, but his asking price could be too high. According to Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports, the Wizards asking price for Kuzma is multiple first-round picks. Is this too high of an asking price for Kuzma?
Kuzma's former team, the Los Angeles Lakers, are one of the favorites to land the star forward, but Dallas could be right behind them in the trade market. The Mavericks have been longing for a third star to pair alongside Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic. Could Kuzma be the missing piece?
The Mavericks are currently at a deficit of draft picks, so they could look to trade one of their younger assets if they insist on getting Kuzma. For more updates on the Dallas Mavericks and the trade deadline, stay plugged in.
