Rumors: Dallas Mavericks are hesitant to trade young guard despite incoming offers
By Noah Weber
The Dallas Mavericks are one game into their seven-game homestand and are in seventh place in the Western Conference ahead of their Friday night matchup with the Portland Trail Blazers.
They have gone from being a team that most media members doubted to being a dark horse contender in the West in a matter of months, but it may take at least one trade to make them legit contenders.
Dallas has been in trade rumors for Pascal Siakam, Dorian Finney-Smith, and Isaiah Stewart, and one of their biggest priorities seems to be upgrading at the power forward position.
Rumors: Dallas Mavericks are hesitant to trade young guard despite incoming offers
Dallas needs more size, and landing some frontcourt help could make them an extremely scary first-round matchup.
Even with all of these trade rumors swirling, it seems that the Mavs are being extremely hesitant and careful about trading one of their young guards. According to a report by Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports, "Dallas has long rebuffed inquiries for Josh Green, sources said, fresh off a 3-year, $41 million extension that begins in 2024-25."
This shows that teams have been calling Dallas about Green, and the Mavs haven't been wanting to deal him to this point. Green is someone who many fans have doubted this season, but his potential is extremely intriguing.
If Green can become more consistent, he will be golden for Dallas. He has all the intangibles to be an elite role player for this team, he just needs to put it all together and stay healthy.
This season for Dallas, Green is averaging 6.7 points, 2.7 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 0.9 steals per game while shooting 35.6 percent from downtown. These numbers are a slight dip from last year, but as Green continues to gain rhythm as he just returned from an elbow injury last week, these numbers could rise.
