Mavericks rumors: Dallas eyeing 8-time All-Star big man in potential blockbuster trade

The Dallas Mavericks are looking to reload their roster this summer, and fans will see several new faces take the floor to start the season.

Dallas has seven players set to become free agents, and there's a chance that only a few, or none, return to the Mavericks. They don't want to miss the playoffs again and have to make Luka Doncic happy in an effort to make him a Maverick for life.

But how can they do that?

FS1's Colin Cowherd thinks that Anthony Davis is exactly what Dallas needs, and "he solves all their issues".

At the 2023 NBA Trade Deadline, Cowherd heard that "Dallas has their eye on Anthony Davis," and this summer the Mavericks could swoop in and pry him away from the Lakers. Davis is under contract for next season and has a $43.2 million player option after that.

"Dallas will absolutely call on A.D. (Anthony Davis). He solves the Luka issue...I think the Lakers and the Mavericks, you will hear in the next month, something."

The most likely way for Dallas to grab Davis would be through a sign-and-trade with Kyrie Irving. The Mavericks could send a trade such as Irving and the tenth overall pick to Los Angeles in exchange for Davis. It would pair Doncic with one of the most dominant bigs in the NBA, who is an elite rebounder and shot blocker.

Even though it was reported by Bleacher Report's Eric Pincus that Dallas had a "handshake deal" with Irving to re-sign him to a max contract, anything can happen. Irving hasn't been a man of his word when it comes to returning to teams in free agency, so this should be taken with a grain of salt.

Irving has all of the power in this situation and can sign wherever he pleases in free agency. Signs are pointing to him returning to Dallas, but a change of heart could send him to test the waters of free agency.
